Martial Arts & Self-Defence Classes in Erith

Classes for children, teens & adults. No experience needed. First 2 classes completely free.

Teaching children self-defence, to help them combat bullying

WHAT SETS US APART

We’re a small, close-knit club based at Erith Leisure Centre, where parents train alongside their children and complete beginners train alongside experienced martial artists. Classes are capped at 15 students, so everyone gets genuine attention and support.

No hidden fees. No pressure. Just proper martial arts in a genuinely welcoming environment.

MORE THAN MARTIAL ARTS

Most people arrive looking for one thing — fitness, confidence, or self-defence. What they find is something they didn’t expect: a steady, growing belief in themselves that shows up in school, at work, and in everyday life. That’s what consistently good training does.

Kuk Sool Won™ is a complete Korean martial arts system covering striking, joint locks, throws, weapons training, and mental development — challenging in the right way, and rewarding at every level.

Our school is led by Matt Scott, a 5th Dahn Master who has trained for over 25 years. He founded Kuk Sool Won™ of Erith to bring that kind of transformative training to our local community — and that commitment shows in every class.

Our Classes

We run separate programmes for children, teenagers, and adults — each tailored to the specific challenges and goals of that age group.

Children (Ages 7-12)

Martial arts gives children something screens and classrooms can’t — real confidence built through achievement. Our classes teach self-defence alongside respect, self-control, and teamwork in a fun, supportive setting.

Teenagers (Ages 13-17)

Teenagers face pressures that don’t get easier on their own. Our classes build the kind of confidence, focus, and resilience that actually helps — on the mat and off it.

Adults (Ages 18+)

Whether you’re a complete beginner or have previous martial arts experience, you’re welcome here. Many adults join with a specific goal — fitness, stress relief, self-defence, or just trying something new. Tell us yours and we’ll help you get there.

My 11 soon to be 12 year old son enjoys these classes, it's a smallish group size which creates a friendly atmosphere. Also I find the teaching style is patient and supportive making it a pleasant environment to learn in and build confidence. We're also kept well informed about upcoming events and gradings so we know what to expect and when things are coming up.

My eight-year-old daughter and I started Kuk Sool Won a few months ago. We are both thoroughly enjoying the classes and learning so much. Matt is an excellent instructor – knowledgeable, explains clearly and keeps us motivated to improve. My daughter is so proud of her new skills: she is more confident and is learning self-defence techniques that, while I hope she never needs them, I’m very glad she’ll know. My husband also recently started, so it’s now a family activity. As an added bonus, my chronic back pain has almost entirely gone away since starting KSW.
