A simple guide to your first martial arts lesson at Kuk Sool Won™ of Erith, including what happens, what to wear, and how beginners are welcomed.
What happens at your first lesson?
Starting something new can feel a bit daunting, especially if it’s your child’s first martial arts class or your own first step into training. The good news is that your first lesson at Kuk Sool Won™ of Erith is designed to feel welcoming, calm, and beginner-friendly from the moment you walk in.
When you arrive at Erith Leisure Centre, the reception staff will greet you and direct you to the sports hall. There’s no pressure to “know what you’re doing” before you start. Most people who come to us are complete beginners, and that’s exactly how it should be.
What will the class include?
Your first class will usually include a warm-up, some basic movements, and an introduction to the style of training we do. You may practise simple stances, blocks, strikes, or stretches, depending on the group and the class. Everything is broken down clearly and demonstrated step by step, so you can follow along at your own pace.
If you’re bringing a child, you’ll probably notice that the class has structure, but also a relaxed and encouraging feel. We want students to enjoy themselves, build confidence, and leave feeling proud of what they achieved.
If you’re joining as an adult, you’ll find the same thing: no judgement, no need to be fit already, and no expectation that you should already know the terminology.
Do I need any special kit?
You don’t need special equipment for your first taster session. Just wear comfortable clothes and bring a bottle of water. If you decide to continue, we’ll guide you through what happens next, including uniform, pricing, and the all-inclusive monthly membership.
Is the first lesson a test?
The most important thing to know is this: your first lesson is not a test. It’s a chance to see whether Kuk Sool Won™ feels like the right fit for you or your family.
Whether you’re a parent looking for a positive activity for your child, a teenager wanting to build confidence, or an adult trying something new, your first lesson is simply the first step.
